Bollywood Film Set to Boost Sapporo Tourism in India
Sapporo City in Japan’s Hokkaido Prefecture is partnering with All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Aamir Khan Productions to position itself as a must-visit destination for Indian travelers. As reported by Travel Trends Today, this collaboration leverages the reach and influence of Bollywood to highlight Sapporo’s stunning landscapes and cultural appeal, with the ultimate goal of increasing tourism.
Film-Induced Tourism Takes Center Stage
The project centers on an upcoming Bollywood film produced by Aamir Khan Productions, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, which is scheduled for release in 2025. Travel Biz Monitor explains that the film will prominently feature Sapporo’s picturesque locations, including its renowned snow-capped mountains and vibrant urban life, presenting an enticing image to Indian audiences.
To support this effort, ANA, the official airline partner, will launch a promotional campaign tied to the film’s release. According to Economic Times Travel, these campaigns aim to stimulate demand among Indian travelers, which ANA hopes will justify launching direct flights to Sapporo.
Expanding Sapporo’s Market Reach
To further enhance its visibility, Sapporo City has teamed up with Global Destinations, a Mumbai-based destination representation company, to actively promote the city in India. Speaking to Travel Biz Monitor, Pranav Kapadia, Founder and Director of Global Destinations, expressed enthusiasm about showcasing Sapporo to Indian tourists, citing its appeal as a year-round destination with unique cultural and culinary offerings.
Insights into Sapporo’s Tourism Goals
As detailed by Travel Trends Today, the collaboration is part of a broader strategy to diversify Japanese tourism by encouraging visitors to explore beyond Tokyo and Kyoto. The promotional efforts will highlight attractions such as Sapporo’s annual Snow Festival, its natural beauty, and the culinary experiences that have made Hokkaido a global food hotspot.
Tsuneya Katagiri, ANA’s Country Manager for India, underscored the importance of fostering demand in the Indian market. He explained that this initiative not only aims to drive tourist numbers but also sets the stage for long-term growth through direct flights and deeper cultural ties between Japan and India.
Looking Ahead: Bollywood’s Role in Tourism
The growing intersection of Bollywood and tourism is exemplified in this partnership, where cinematic exposure is used to drive international travel. By prominently featuring Sapporo in the film, Aamir Khan Productions and its partners are betting on the power of storytelling to inspire Indian travelers to explore Japan’s northernmost island.
